So, whenever someone asks me what I do, I reply that I’m a content writer. Quite often, they aren’t sure what that means, and for good reason. It’s not the most descriptive job title in the world, but that’s because content writing has to remain as open and flexible as it can; content writers wear a lot of hats. Ask 10 different content writers what they do during the day, and you’ll most likely get 10 different answers. The truth is the job of a content writer is about much more than just churning out articles or blog posts. Let’s take a moment to break down the job of the content writer, and see if we can develop a more thorough understanding of just what we content writers do – and why you probably need one.
Anytime you are making a change to your body, you want people to notice but not so much that they question whether or not it is fake. You want people to notice the 6-pack... not the liposuction. You want people to notice a thicker head of hair... not that you are using Rogaine. The same can be said for women who are getting their hair colored. Results combined with a secret as to how the customer got the results can make for killer copywriting –– "Does she... or doesn't she?"
Videos are a highly engaging content medium that are shareable across social media platforms and websites alike. Videos require a bigger investment of time and resources than written content, but as visual marketing increases in popularity -- after all, it's 40X more likely to get shared on social media than other types of content -- it's a medium worth experimenting with.
While it's true Google can do a lot of the distribution work for you, it hinges on making smart decisions with your content strategy. In other words, Google might distribute the content you create, but it might distribute it onto page 32. Your job is to make sure as much content as possible appears as high up on page one as possible. This means your writers should be working closely with your SEO specialist to determine what keywords to go after -- ideally a combination of long tail terms and head terms, at an appropriate level of competitiveness given your domain authority and how aggressively you can go after the terms. Of course, that content should also be optimized for on-page SEO to improve its chances of ranking highly.
While successful content writers seem to have an enviable life -- they work from home, make their own schedules and work as much or as little as they please -- the vast majority have a hard time making a living of it. They lack the skills necessary to succeed. Because no matter how talented they are, writing skill is simply not enough. So, if you want to become successful as a content writer, you need a full toolkit of marketable skills.

Thanks for this post. It verified what I thought was true. I was recently employed and given the role of content executive. My manager asks me to write product copy on a daily bases which I’m really not confident doing. I can write long blog posts without any issues but writing short one liners gives me anxiety. I don’t know if I should admit this or not…. They also think SEO is simple copy.
Tip: Don’t worry about keyword density (the ratio between the number of times keywords appear in your content and how many total words are present on your page). As long as your keyword phrases are included in your copy where search engines need them to interpret your content (and where it would make sense naturally for your reader), then you’re in good shape.
This is a great course. Nick explains everything clearly using great examples. Made me look at headlines very differently. I feel better able to have a go at writing more professional headlines now. I mostly worry about the length of the original source. If I quoted 100 words from a 250-word blog, I think that would be too much. A lawyer would have the best advice, but I would limit the quote to 25 words in that case. Books are a little easier. If you quote 300 words from a 150-page book, I believe you would be fine. Poems and song lyrics are a danger zone because they’re often short. I’ve cited as little as possible from them. It’s always best to get legal counsel before publishing the final content.
To be fair, the name is pretty self-explanatory. As a web content writer, you… well… write content for websites. Depending on the site owner or consultant that you work for, this might take the form of blog posts, ebooks, reports, manifestos, white papers, email newsletters, sales copy, product descriptions and more. Really, wherever you see words online, you’re seeing an opportunity for work as a paid web content writer.

Both content and copywriters obtain different skills and there is a grey area with some overlap in their descriptions but it can be difficult if you are a content writer with the expectations set of you of a copywriter. I agree, they are still different. Although going forward, they will slowly require the need to obtain both skills in their arsenal – what are your thoughts on this?
In order to go about trading, you are going to need to pick a market that is promising enough to make the transaction worthwhile. Do a little research and see if there are any strategies that you can use to trade currencies in real time. In the end, as long as you pick a good market and one that offers a reasonable profit margin, you will be more than compensated for your trouble.
What about official titles and Latin terms, you say? Again, if the purpose of italics is to emphasize text, this is accomplished through the capitalization of principle words, which already distinguishes names and titles from the surrounding text. Italics should be reserved for print products only. Why exclude a portion of your audience from accessing your web content effectively?
