I like that you explain in simple terms how to make your content perfect for your audience and engage them. My fear is being unable to accurately target customer pain points and never turn any new leads. Although, by focusing strongly on the target audience and doing content audits can help adjust content to better fit the audience. I’m SO ready to start producing effective, targeted content that will help people while gaining their interest, and I’ll definitely be using these points as a guide. Thanks so much!
The final step of keyword research is to create awesome landing pages for the keywords you want to be found for. A landing page is a page that is tailored to draw in visitors who found your blog through a specific keyword. This could be a dedicated page or a blog post optimized for a specific keyword. Do make sure your visitors can navigate your blog from every landing page. And make sure you have a landing page for every relevant keyword you come up with.
Use a newspaper article from a local publication or an online publication and break it down based on the upside triangle structure of a typical newspaper article. Does the article conform to the traditional structure or does it use a different structure or form? Does the writer seem credible and believable? Does the article use reputable sources and quotes to support any arguments in the article?
Allowing copywriters to create content purely for the reader rarely leads to a broad organic search presence for your domain. Most writers are taught in school to use synonyms rather than mentioning keywords 3+ times in the same piece, which is counterproductive to SEO. A good way around this is to allow an SEO specialist to edit all content for optimization after the copywriters are finished.
Review : I found the course informative and to the point, all useful information, not a minute of my time wasted. It is also quite broad, comprises all the relevant technical aspects of writing. It was exactly what I had in mind to get from the course – practical info that really helps writing more effectively, it totally met my expectations. -Emese Korondi

Hey Greg – if the business has a recognizable brand in the industry I do everything I can to include it in the title tag. I’ve found the credibility to really help with CTRs. Do they have an abbreviated brand name that could be used? If it takes up the entire title tag space, then yes, I’d probably just go with the meta description approach you mentioned.
Customize your resume and cover letter. If you decide to go a more traditional route and apply for a permanent content writing position at a writing based agency or organization, you will need to customize your resume and cover letter to fit the position. This will show your employer that you noted the skills outlined in the job posting and that you can fulfill the expectations of the position.
We are looking for a pithy copywriter to work with our Visual Designer and help us redesign our website. The ideal candidate is more than a copywriter though. The ideal candidate would also help us with an overall SEO and content strategy for the new website including a site map, how/where to incorporate testimonials and videos, how to word our pricing model, and **ultimately**, how to dri…
She took time to understand our unique context and tailored the training specifically to our needs. You can get content writing jobs a few different ways. It’s best to reach out to companies directly or to apply for freelance content writing positions that are advertised on websites like Indeed.com. Applying to posted calls for freelance writers can be a good way to know which companies are looking for new writers. However, companies that post these ads end up with hundreds, if not thousands, of applicants, which can make it difficult for new content writers to obtain their first clients.
Digital marketing is the art of communication on the internet and has nothing to do with the contents of printed media like books, magazines, newspapers and other forms of mass media. The term “digital marketing” was originally coined in the 1990s as a way of describing the increasing use of technology for marketing and communications, to allow for the creation of websites that would provide easy access to products and services. It has now grown into a specialized form of marketing that combines technology with business communication and is much more than just providing the means for marketing online.
Search engine optimization (SEO) copywriting is the use of keywords to generate leads and higher traffic. Sometimes it is called SEO copywriting or web content writing. There are many important factors involved in the writing of content for search engines and people have to be aware of them. This is the most effective way to get your website noticed by search engines and people who visit your site.
When writing calls to action, put yourself in the reader’s shoes: what would it take for a company you’ve never heard of to convince you to do something, even something as simple as sharing the article with a friend? Now, connect it to your goals: how can you craft a CTA and content specific to your company’s marketing and sales KPIs that actually persuades readers to take action?
The key word here is “valuable.” It’s what changes this definition from one that could describe almost any form of advertising or marketing. You can tell if a piece of content is the sort that could be part of a content marketing campaign if people seek it out, if people want to consume it, rather than avoiding it. So was VW’s 2014 “Game Day” commercial, which has been viewed on YouTube almost 18 million times as of the writing of this post, an ad, or content marketing? The answer is it’s both, depending on how it’s received by each individual who is exposed to it. The same will apply to any piece of content marketing you create, depending on whether the recipient received value from it or not. Of course the goal is to provide as much value from your content marketing to as much of your target audience as possible. At this point, despite this definition and explanation, you’re probably still wondering what exactly content marketing is. We can get more clarity by considering a few examples.
You may also want to consider doing an internship at a publication you hope to work for full time in the future to make connections with editors and other writers at the publication. Many of these internships will likely not be paid, at least not at first. Be prepared to receive compensation in the form of connections and contacts. But be wary of being taken advantage of as free labor. If you feel uncomfortable working for free, try to find internships that pay.[9]
You need to show some examples of your work.  Give them your award-winning pieces or samples that you feel are the most compelling and engaging. Some good examples would be your most successful email marketing pieces (if you have access to them), or your most viewed articles on the internet. Bring a hard copy of the articles. This gives the interviewer concrete proof of your writing skills.
When the marketing team starts to grow, who leads content marketing gets more interesting. With a team of three marketers, you can approach content marketing a couple ways. Either one person can own content marketing activities, while the other two own activities that align more with the middle- and bottom-of the funnel. Or, two people can own content marketing activities, while the third owns the rest.
For example, let’s say you follow an amazing food blogger who you get almost all your dinner ideas from. She comes up with healthy and quick meals that fit perfectly with your lifestyle. One day, you visit her site expecting a daily recipe, but instead, find a post on color-coordinating your wardrobe. The horror! Chances are you’d be turned off by it and would quickly search for a substitute food blogger. Audiences expect you to provide what they need — consistently.
Content marketing requires manpower, so the first step is figuring out who is going to head up the program. There's no one-size-fits-all for team structure -- it depends largely on the size of your company, your marketing team, and your budget. But if we assume that those three things are interlinked, as they often are, I can provide you with some frameworks based off of other content marketing-focused companies' structures. These should help you hire the right people, and have them "sitting" in the right spot in your organization.
Ebooks are the next step in the inbound marketing process: After reading a blog post (such as this one), visitors might want more information. This is where calls-to-action (CTAs) come into play, directing people to a landing page where they can submit their contact information and download an ebook to learn more valuable information for their business. In turn, the business producing the ebook has a new lead for the sales team to contact.

Let's say you're using PPC as your primary means of generating leads for your business. You need more leads, and decide to bid on the term "infographic generator" for $2 a click. At the end of your month-long campaign, you generated 1,000 leads and spent $10,000. Not bad. But what about next month? You have to spend $10,000 again. And again. And again. That is, if you want the leads to keep coming. In other words, when you turn the faucet of money off, leads stop coming out. The same concept applies with list purchasing, tradeshow marketing -- anything where you don't own the property from which leads are generated. Now let's contrast that experience against, say, blogging.
Content writers typically create content for the Web. This content can include sales copy, e-books, podcasts, and text for graphics. Content writers use various Web formatting tools, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and content management systems to help create their work. Content writers produce the content for many different types of websites, including blogs, social networks, e-commerce sites, news aggregators, and college websites.
Some people are natural writers and don’t need any tips for their SEO copywriting – they are able to write an attractive, fun, readable article in a few minutes. Others lack that skill. But, while attractive writing is a matter of talent, practice surely helps! Let’s look at some tips to improve your writing style, as well as two writing styles to experiment with.
To explain how content marketing works, we first have to agree on a definition. Unfortunately, I might've sent myself on a fool's errand -- I went through dozens of different iterations of a content marketing definition (including the somewhat flippant "content marketing is using content for marketing") and found none of them totally satisfactory. But I hate to let perfection get in the way of progress, so let's just get something down on paper so we have a basis for discussion:
Review : As a newbie to writing content I didn’t know much of anything when I started this course. I have a site with content, but my traffic is low. This course taught me what I am doing wrong ( which was mostly everything) and what to do to make it right. Also, I now have a great understanding of the field of content writing and what it takes to make it in the business. In my opinion this course over delivered on it’s promise. This is a great course, thanks Mike & Ken for sharing your knowledge. Peace. – Tim Wiesner
